Description
Mila Standard Multipoint Door Lock
The Mila Standard multipoint door lock is designed specifically for the passive door in a pair of French doors, featuring no locking points. This classic lock has been a popular choice for residential doors since its inception, although it is no longer part of Mila's current UPVC door lock range. Fortunately, it is still manufactured by the original factory in Italy, ensuring quality and reliability.
Identification and Compatibility
Identifying a classic Mila UPVC door lock is straightforward once removed from the door, thanks to its distinctive gearbox shape with triangular corners. However, identifying it while still installed can be challenging, as various door and window companies have rebranded these locks. While the lock may be stamped with the Mila name, it could also bear the names Coldseal, Barratt, Iseo, or Swiftframe on the faceplate. Regardless of branding, the underlying mechanism remains consistent across all versions.
Due to the widespread use of these locks by different manufacturers, many have their own unique locking position spacing. This has resulted in several variations, not all of which are currently available. If your lock does not match our specifications, it may be possible to adjust the keeps for compatibility or use a replacement gearbox to repair the existing lock.
Gearbox Options
Mila gearboxes come in both latch-only and latch-and-deadbolt configurations, with options for single or double spindles.
-
Latch Only Versions: Available in 25mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 45mm backsets, always featuring a single spindle.
-
Latch and Deadbolt Versions:
- Single spindle (92mm PZ) available in 35mm and 45mm backsets.
- Double spindles available only with a 35mm backset, featuring a 70mm/92mm PZ measurement.
Despite the variety in backsets and configurations, the dimensions of Mila gearboxes are largely uniform, measuring 233mm high by the backset + 20mm wide. The latch measures 20mm high, the deadbolt 30mm high, with an 80mm distance between the bottom of the latch and the top of the deadbolt.
Important Considerations
Some older locks may feature an offset or cranked connector, which is relevant when replacing a gearbox rather than a full-length lock. Replacement gearboxes are now only available with inline connectors, but they remain compatible with older locks. Adapting the drive gear behind the faceplate is necessary, which involves cutting a square hole in the drive gear to create a slot for proper functionality.
Operation Instructions
To Lock the Door:
- Lift the handle upwards to engage the locking points.
- Secure the locking points and main deadbolt (if applicable) by turning the key.
To Unlock the Door:
- Unlock the system by turning the key.
- Push the handle downwards to disengage the locking points and retract the latch.
