The spindle follower, often referred to as a "shank," is the most common part to fail in these gearboxes. This cast metal cam features an 8mm square opening designed to accommodate the lever spindle. Over time, it can crack at the corners or break away, leading to drooping or inoperable lever handles. Such damage may occur due to misuse or wear and tear.
