Product Information

Introducing the SEA Gearboxes, the smallest gearboxes on the market, measuring just 185mm high with a backset of +15mm. These compact gearboxes are designed for efficiency and ease of use, featuring a 64mm distance between the latch and deadbolt, and 63mm from the spindle to the top of the gearbox. A unique groove above the spindle facilitates the installation of handles with a screw above the lever, ensuring a seamless fit.

All SEA locks come equipped with both a latch and deadbolt within the gearbox, providing enhanced security and functionality.

Unique Features

SEA gearboxes are uniquely attached to the faceplate using a set of rivets, which can be easily removed and replaced for gearbox swaps. This distinctive feature not only simplifies maintenance but also makes SEA gearboxes easily identifiable in the market. For detailed instructions on replacing a SEA gearbox, please refer to our comprehensive guide and instructional video.

Be aware that older SEA gearboxes may still be found, which are attached with screws and feature a passivated yellow finish. The operation of these locks is indicated by a sticker on the side (red = key wind and blue = lift lever). Note that these older models were handed and are no longer available.

Operation and Reversal Instructions

  • Operation: Lift lever or split spindle

  • Latch Reversal: To reverse the latch, push in the latch until a screw appears at the back of the lockcase. Undo the screw to remove the latch, reverse it, reinsert, and replace the screw.

  • Nightlatch Reversal: The small rectangular slot next to the spindle hole contains a hollow black roll pin. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to push the pin to the opposite side to reverse the function.

Installation and Locking Mechanism

SEA cases are secured with pin rivets located on the side of the case (one at the top and one at the bottom). To remove, simply knock the pins out with a punch. The original pins can usually be reused, but replacement pin rivets are available if needed.

To Lock the Door:

  1. Close the door to automatically engage the latch.
  2. Lift the handle to engage the additional locking points.
  3. Throw the deadbolt and lock the system by turning the key (on some brands, lifting the handle will throw the deadbolt).

To Unlock the Door:

  1. Unlock the system by turning the key.
  2. Push the handle down to disengage the locking points.
  3. A further quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.
