Product Overview: Avocet Multipoint Door Lock

The Avocet multipoint door lock is designed for enhanced security and durability, featuring a robust configuration of 4 rollers, 1 deadbolt, and 1 latch. This lock is crafted in Avocet's Trivalent silver finish, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and long-lasting performance, with gearboxes tested to withstand 100,000 operations.

Identification and Features

Once removed from the door, Avocet locks are easily identifiable. Look for faceplates stamped with the Avocet logo, while older models may display the "WMS" logo. The unique gearbox shape, characterized by a cutout extending below the latch, aids in identifying multipoint locks.

Originally, Avocet locks came in various configurations, including hooks, rollers, and deadbolts. The earlier versions were made from yellow passivated steel, giving them a distinctive brassy appearance. Recent models have transitioned to stainless steel or Trivalent silver finishes, with most variations replaced, except for a few notable exceptions.

Sash Lifter and Backset Options

Some Avocet locks include a "sash lifter" device for improved alignment, though these are no longer available. We recommend replacing such locks with standard versions. Most Avocet locks feature a 35mm backset, while the Affinity Bastion lock, designed for composite doors, has a 45mm backset.

Lock Functionality

Current Avocet multipoint locks are available only in a double spindle nightlatch configuration, with centers at 62mm and 92mm. If nightlatch functionality is not needed, the lock can still operate as a lift lever version using the top spindle. Additionally, locks designed for PVCu with a flat 16mm faceplate can accommodate shootbolts.

Gearbox Specifications

Avocet gearboxes measure 218mm high plus the backset (add 15mm). The distinctive large cutout in the top corner aids in handle fitment, with screws located above the lever. The latch measures 29mm high, while the deadbolt is 34mm high, with an 82mm distance between them.

Installation and Maintenance

Gearboxes are secured by arms connected with circlips, rather than conventional screws or rivets. While it is possible to remove a gearbox from a full Avocet lock, we recommend replacing the entire unit for optimal performance. Note that the design of the arms has evolved, making swaps between older and newer gearboxes incompatible.

Operation Instructions

To lock the door:

1. Close the door to engage the latch automatically.
2. Lift the handle to engage the locking points.
3. Turn the key to lock the system.

To unlock the door:

1. Turn the key to unlock the system.
2. Push the handle down to disengage the locking points.
3. A quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.

Corrosion Resistance and Testing

Avocet locks are corrosion resistant, meeting BSEN1670:2007 Grade 4 standards and are tested for 100,000 cycles. We also offer a range of associated products, including keeps, spindles, handles, and accessories.

Latch Reversal Instructions

Depending on the manufacturing date, you may reverse the latch by either:

• Undoing the hexagonal screw on the side of the lock case, reversing the latch, reinserting, and replacing the screw.
• Or, undoing the screw in the center of the latch, reversing, reinserting, and replacing the screw.

This lock is suitable for use as a UPVC door lock or an aluminum door lock, providing versatility and security for various applications.
