To measure the backset, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the Door Edge: Locate the edge of the door where the lock will be installed.

  2. Measure from the Edge: Use a tape measure to find the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the lock cylinder or the keyhole. This distance is your backset measurement.

  3. Confirm the Measurement: Ensure that the measurement is accurate, as it is crucial for proper installation and functionality of the lock.

To measure the centres (PZ), do the following:

  1. Locate the Lock Cylinder: Identify the position of the lock cylinder on the door.

  2. Measure the Distance: Measure from the center of the cylinder to the center of the handle or lever. This distance is your PZ measurement.

  3. Double-Check: Verify the measurement to ensure compatibility with your locking mechanism.

Regarding the operation of the gearbox, it is designed for both lift lever and split spindle nightlatch functions. This means you can operate the lock using a lever handle that lifts to engage the latch or use a split spindle mechanism that allows for independent operation of the outside handle. This versatility makes it suitable for various door types and security needs.

Operation

The Bowater Gearbox operates in two ways:

  • Lift Lever Operation: This allows you to engage the latch by lifting the lever handle, providing a smooth and intuitive locking mechanism.

  • Split Spindle Nightlatch: This feature enables independent operation of the outside handle, allowing for added security and convenience, especially in situations where you may want to lock the door from the inside while still allowing access from the outside.

This versatility makes the Bowater Gearbox suitable for various door types and security needs, ensuring both functionality and ease of use.
