Ingenious Duplex Multipoint Door Lock Overview
The Ingenious Duplex multipoint door lock is designed for enhanced security and durability, featuring a robust configuration of 4 rollers, 5 hooks, and 1 latch. This lock is ideal for both UPVC and aluminium doors, ensuring a reliable locking mechanism for your home or business.
Identifying Your Ingenious Lock
Identifying an Ingenious lock is straightforward. Look for the brand stamped on the faceplate, and check for the Secured By Design logo. If the lock is still installed, a small black snib below the latch can help confirm its identity. However, be aware that other brands like ERA and Kenrick may also have similar features. Ingenious locks are characterized by a central hook that throws downward, distinguishing them from deadbolts.
For the most accurate identification, we recommend removing the multipoint lock from the door, especially if the brand is not visible or if it has been rebranded.
Gearbox Specifications
Ingenious gearboxes are notable for their double spindle arrangement, with centers at 62mm and 92mm. Both followers are unsprung, so using sprung door furniture is advisable. The gearbox measures 230mm in height and is secured to the faceplate with three screw holes, spaced as follows:
- Top screw hole to middle screw hole: 110mm
- Middle screw hole to bottom screw hole: 108mm
The hook and latch are both 30mm high, with a distance of 75mm between them. When measuring the backset, remember to account for the faceplate, as a 35mm backset gearbox will measure 32mm when not fixed.
Locking Mechanism and Operation
Ingenious locks feature a small plastic snib on the faceplate, allowing you to hold the latch back for convenience and to avoid accidental lockouts.
To Lock the Door:
- Lift the handle upwards to engage the locking points.
- Secure the locking points and main deadbolt (if applicable) by turning the key.
To Unlock the Door:
- Turn the key to unlock the system.
- Push the handle downwards to disengage the locking points and retract the latch.
Rollers and Hooks
The lock includes rollers that help compress the door against the frame, preventing dust and water ingress. While they do not significantly enhance security, they support the door's structure, helping to prevent warping. Rollers are typically adjustable by 1-2mm for optimal weather sealing.
Ingenious locks come with two hook arrangements:
- Standard Hook: Throws upwards, regardless of its position on the door.
- Duplex Hook: A higher security option featuring cast zinc hooks that throw towards each other, resembling crab claws. The Duplex locks have a larger hook case, which may require enlarging the routing on the door if upgrading.
